1950s Anne Fogarty "Paper Doll" Little Black Dress
Fantastic Anne Fogarty vintage party or cocktail dress in an always appropriate shade of midnight black. This dress dates between 1950-1955 when Anne Fogarty worked for the Margot label. This famous American designer was known for her version of the New Look called the "Paper Doll" silhouette. The design elements of this look was the fitted bodice, dropped neckline and very full skirts. This dress is a perfect example of that style of design she made so famous. In addition this style of clothing earned her a Coty Award in 1951. This dress is a cotton waffle weave fabric in a rich, dark, midnight black shade. Close fitting bodice with flattering princess seaming. Lovely scooped neckline is flattering to the face. The dress is accented with fourteen beautiful stunning rhinestone buttons down the entire front of the dress. Each button is approximately one inch in diameter and is desinged with marque, round, pear, oval and bagette cut rhinestones. All stones are present on the buttons with the exception of two tiny stones missing on the next to the bottom button near the hemline. The skirt is extreemly full and makes almost a perfect circle when laid out. There is also a side in-seam pocket on each side of the dress. This dress was photographed with a crinoline for the added fullness that is necessary for this "paper doll" look. (This crinoline is not included with the dress) Simply a beautiful, classic "Little Black Dress" that is perfect for the discriminating vintage collector. Label: Anne Fogarty Margot Inc. This dress is in excellent vintage condition. The only thing that was noticed upon very close inspection is a very tiny hole in the fabric about three inches from the bottom hemline on the side of the dress. It is very hard to see as it falls into the very full folds of the dress. If you would like a photo of this area, please contact Memphis Vintage. Very minor, but want to mention anything that is found.
