Exquisite 1940s Tailored Anna Miller Brocade Evening Suit If you are not familiar with the label Anna Miller here is just a bit of background info on the company. Anna Miller was an excellent manufacturer in the 40s and 50s. She did some wonderful designs. When Bill Blass was fired from Anne Klein in the 40s he was then hired on as an assistant designer for Anna Miller. Anna Miller was merged with her brother Maurice Rentner's design company in the late 50's and then Bill Blass took over the company to have it become Bill Blass LTD in 1999. In 1996 Bill Blass actually re-released a line-for-line reproduction of his Anna Miller suits from 1951. Well, here is THE real thing from that era, not a re-release. So you can have one of the originals! Here is a wonderful example of a well designed vintage evening suit by Anna Miller. I would date this to the first half of the 1940s. Quality construction in this garment. The fabric is elegant and simply beautiful. It is a coppery shade of brown satin brocade fabric that is done in a Renaissance or Midieval print. This taste for medieval details, such as shown by the feudal scene in the fabric, was very popular during the first half of the 40s. The jacket has a narrow collar with a "wing" lapel over the bustline and is accented with a peplum at the waistline. The jacket is fully lined in a crepe fabric and the embroidered "Anna Miller" black label is sewn into the side of the jacket as is the other label "Harry Cooper, Beverly Hills". Beautiful dressmaker details on this suit that cannot be appreciated in the photos. The skirt is slim with angled pleats over the hip to allow for ease of movement. The front of the skirt is lined in the crepe fabric and there is a side metal zipper for closure. Beautiful!! Excellent vintage condition. The only thing that we noticed upon inspection is that there is some fading to the fabric at the back of the shoulders. I believe it is possibly due to a chemical reaction of the shoulder pads and the fabric, as it is just at the shoulder pads. It is more noticable in certain light than others. Shown on a modern size 8 dress form. Label: Anna Miller
